MongoDB 中 2dspere 索引的实现原理？

Mongo 文档中有介绍其 2d 索引由 GeoHash 来实现，但是没有提到 2dsphere 的实现原理，在网络上也找不到介绍。
有人知道 2dsphere 的实现吗？
